Description: Senior Design Engineer Category: B - Important Need Description: SUMMARY Responsible for the design of new products and design improvement of current products from concept and planning through prototype and pilot manufacture. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: All product design functions including: ? Conception of new products for the company. ? Coordinate efforts of project support personnel. ? Measure progress against defined cost, time and technical objectives of assigned projects. Develop and implement plans to meet these objectives. Plan, perform, and evaluate all development testing and prototype development. ? Specify product performance. ? Compute dimensions and tolerances to ensure proper form, fit and function. ? Provide technical assistance. ? Participate on technical committees for the purpose of establishing design and performance requirements of company products. ? Communicate with customers, vendors and other departments to gather/disseminate technical information. ? Evaluate competing products. Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies. ? Review ATS Procedures to insure an accurate representation of design requirements with respect to production testing. ? Assist in construction cost estimates for preliminary design proposals. ? Keep accurate notes and records related to product design. ? Provide technical support in all matters pertaining to product liability cases and accident investigations. ? Examine and review production and preliminary drawings for accuracy and completeness. ? Other duties may be assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT General office conditions with frequent exposure to plant heat, dust, and noise. Occasionally travel to customer/vendor locations by auto and airplane may be required. Considerable and varied contact with persons both within and outside the company is required. Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS to perform job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requires minimum of three years experience with project management exposure, valve design and fluid flow design experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. SKILLS Mathematical skills commensurate with degree. Must be able to comprehend, analyze and disseminate complex technical information on the subject of structural design, material science, casting, molding, machining and physical testing. Must be familiar with gas kinetics and fluid mechanics. Must be able to exercise practical judgment on the basis of both objective and subjective analysis of available and often incomplete data. Supervisory skills are required with knowledge of human relations issues. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires high level of mental effort and concentration. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
